Vardaga and Svenska Stadsbyggen set to build new Finnish-speaking nursing home in Jordbro – with Finnish food and sauna on the menu

Jordbro will soon have a new Finnish-speaking nursing home for elderly. Villa Gullringen will comprise 79 apartments in Kalvsvik, close to both good transportation and nature. The home caters to elderly with dementia or age-related physical disability, and will also include Finnish-speaking section.

The building will be constructed by Svenska Stadsbyggen and the home will be operated by Vardaga.

Villa Gullringen is expected to be ready for occupancy during the second quarter of 2020 and will include an orientation towards Finnish-speakers. The staff will be required to be able to speak and write in both Finnish and Swedish. Vardaga has previous experience in managing Finnish-speaking nursing home for elderly, including in Västerås.

The home will be furnished according to Vardaga’s award-winning residential concept. The interiors will combine function with Nordic design to create a warm, homely and functional living environment. The colours and fixtures are adapted for the ageing eye – based on research and evidence-based practice – and designed to facilitate wayfinding for people with dementia.

“We look forward to be able to offer a modern nursing home for those who came to Sweden from Finland during the 1960’s and 1970’s, where they will have the opportunity to speak their native tongue, enjoy Finnish food and follow the home country’s traditions, such as having a sauna”, says Christina Hinnas Selder, Regional Manager at Vardaga.

“Svenska Stadsbyggen is very proud and happy that Vardaga has chosen us as property owner for their big project in Jordbro”, says the CEO of Svenska Stadsbyggen Peter Åman.

“We welcome Vardaga’s home, which we know will fill an important function in being able to provide safe care for our elderly, including the Finnish-speaking, who wish to grow old supported by people that understand and are able to speak Finnish, which we know there are residents in Haninge who request”, says Petri Salonen, Deputy Mayor of Haninge kommun.
