Ambea Group
History
The Group is active in Sweden through Carema Care and Carema Healthcare, in Finland through Mehiläinen and Carema, and in Norway through Carema.
The breadth and scalability of its business model makes the Group the overall market leader in the Nordic region with critical scale in each of the business segments where it is active.
1996 Carema is formed under the name of Nordvård and acquires Omsorg och Boendeservice.
1997 Carema acquires the primary care provider Svensk Hälsovård.
1998 The Orkidén care company is acquired.
1999 Carema implements its first foreign acquisition, 20 per cent of Nelikko in Finland.
2001 Carema acquires Rent-A-Doctor, which provides medical staffing services.
2002 A major streamlining programme is implemented.
2004 Fertilitetscenter in Gothenburg is acquired.
2005 Ambea (former H-Careholding), a company formed by the new main owner, 3i.
2007 The company´s name is changed to Ambea. A refinancing programme corresponding to EUR 440 million is closed.
2008 Strong growth, especially in elderly care an outpatient psychiatry. Focus om adapting operations within the Primary Care segment to care choice models.
1909 Mehiläinen is founded by four physicians who set up a new hospital in Helsinki.
1932 A new hospital is completed in 1932 in Helsinki, specialising in childbirth and female diseases, surgery, internal medicine and eye and ear diseases. The Vuori group practice opens in Turku.
1950´s The private Vagus practice opens for business. The Vuori practice is merged with Meditori.
1980´s The Mehiläinen Group is formed. The Hagnäs group practice and its subsidiaries, the Forum and Konvaljvägen group practices, are acquired.
1990´s Medifori and Vagus are merged to Tohtoritalo.
2001 Tohtoritalo and Mehiläinen are merged, creating the basis for Finland´s largest healthcare company, Mehiläinen Oy.
2002—2004 About 30 companies are acquired.
2005 Mehiläinen´s network of group practices receives a new addition through the purchase of a business in Lahti. A new service unit is completed in Tampere.
2006 Mehiläinen is ISOSO-certified. H-Careholding Oy acquires the company. The new main owner is 3i.
2007 A hospital business is initiated in Lahti and Mehiläinen and Carema win the primary care and home healthcare tender for the municipality of Karjaa.
2008 Overall strong growth and large contracts in occupational healthcare. Acqusitions of the outpatient clinics in Raisio and Riihimäki.
Norway
2000 Carema wins contract to operate at Hovseterhjemmet, one of Norway´s largest nursing homes.
2004 Ambea acquires Friskvernklinikken, a specialist clinic focusing on rehabilitation of muscle and skeletal injuries, athletic injuries as well as obesity and psychiatry.
2007 The elderly care business expands by 50 per cent through the award of a tender for the St Hanshaugen nursing.
2008 A greater number of customers in the home-help service and Friskvernklinikken. The operations of Hovseterhjemmet nursing home was lost.
